DBT is a key therapy model for people who struggle with ‘Emotional Dysregulation’. Essentially, this is the inability to effectively manage and cope with emotional experiences. This is common in people who have experienced family violence.
Emotional Dysregulation is associated with many negative health outcomes- most notably self harm. Thus, it is very important to develop skills around how to manage difficult emotional experiences.
